PROFESSIONAL MOUNTAINBIKE RACER
Kevin Van Hoovels is one out of two mountain bikers that represented Belgium at the 2012 Olympics in London. He has been a professional mountainbike racer since 2011. After winning the Belgian title in 2010, his career took a giant leap. Kevin won 4 UCI-1 races and moved up to the 18th place on the international ranking. With his 15th place at the world championships in 2011, Kevin gained a ticket to compete at the 2012 Olympic games.
2012 Didn’t start with a blast as expected since Kevin got ill at the Cape Epic race in the beginning of the season. It took some months to recover from this tremendous effort but Kevin found the right shape just in time for the start of the Olympics.
At the Olympic Games in London, Kevin confirmed his place amongst the 20 best mountainbike racers of the world.
I had hoped for a good result at the Cape Epic to have a better start position at the next World Cups. Unfortunately both I and my team mate Sébastien Carabin got ill and we really exhausted our body in that race. But I never panicked.
